‘Wicked’, ‘Nosferatu’, and ‘Conclave’ Dominate at the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards: Complete Winners List

The 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGA) celebrated outstanding achievements in costume design on Thursday night at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. The event honored the creative talents behind some of the year’s most visually stunning films and TV shows, with NosferatuWicked, and Conclave taking home top honors in their respective categories.

Film Category Winners

  • Excellence in Period FilmNosferatu
    Costume designer Linda Muir was recognized for her exceptional work on the gothic horror film, which also earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design.
  • Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy FilmWicked
    Paul Tazewell’s imaginative designs for the highly anticipated fantasy musical secured the win in this competitive category.
  • Excellence in Contemporary FilmConclave
    Lisy Christl’s modern and sleek costume designs for the political thriller earned her the Contemporary Film trophy.

All three winners are also in the running for the coveted Best Costume Design Oscar at next month’s Academy Awards, alongside other nominees like A Complete Unknown (Arianne Phillips) and Gladiator II (Janty Yates and Dave Crossman). Historically, the CDGA has been a strong predictor of Oscar success, with period films dominating the category. Recent exceptions include Mad Max: Fury Road (2016), Black Panther (2019), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2023).

Television Category Winners

  • Excellence in Period TelevisionShōgun
    Carlos Rosario’s intricate and historically accurate designs for the FX series earned the Period Television award. The show also won for Excellence in Costume Illustration, highlighting its exceptional visual storytelling.
  • Excellence in Contemporary TelevisionHacks
    Kathleen Felix-Hager’s stylish and contemporary wardrobe for the Max comedy series secured the win in this category.
  • Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy TelevisionDune: Prophecy
    Bojana Nikitovic’s futuristic and otherworldly designs for the HBO series took home the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television prize.

Other Notable Wins

  • Excellence in Variety, Reality-Competition, Live TelevisionThe Masked Singer
    Co-costume designers Luke D’Alessandro and Arleen Flores were recognized for their vibrant and creative costumes on the popular Fox show.
  • Excellence in Short Form Design: Beyoncé’s Verizon Commercial, Can’t Be Broken
    Shiona Turini’s bold and striking designs for Beyoncé’s commercial earned her the Short Form Design award.

Special Honors

The ceremony also paid tribute to industry legends and rising stars. The late Van Smith, known for his collaborations with John Waters, was posthumously inducted into the CDG’s Edith Head Hall of Fame. Singer-actor Janelle Monáe received the Vanguard Spotlight Award, while Emilia Pérez and Lioness star Zoe Saldaña was honored with the 2025 Spotlight Award.

A Celebration of Resilience and Creativity

CDG Executive Director Brigitta Romanov emphasized the resilience and strength of the costume design community, stating, “Our community has been through so much, and we believe in using our platforms to benefit those affected. We are convinced of their ultimate strength and resilience over adversity.”

The Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892, represents over 1,200 members, including costume designers, assistant costume designers, and illustrators working across film, television, commercials, music videos, and other media. The awards highlight the artistry and craftsmanship that bring characters and stories to life through costume design.
